Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Clinical Negation Detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
Detecting negated concepts in clinical texts is an important part of NLP information extraction systems. However, generalizability of negation systems is lacking, as cross-domain experiments suffer dramatic performance losses. We examine the performance of multiple unsupervised domain adaptation algorithms on clinical negation detection, finding only modest gains that fall well short of in-domain performance.

Deep Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Image Classification via Low Rank Representation Learning
Domain adaptation is a powerful technique given a wide amount of labeled data from similar attributes in different domains. In real-world applications, there is a huge number of data but almost more of them are unlabeled. It is effective in image classification where it is expensive and time-consuming to obtain adequate label data. We propose a novel method named DALRRL, which consists of deep ...
متن کاملNegation’s Not Solved: Generalizability Versus Optimizability in Clinical Natural Language Processing
A review of published work in clinical natural language processing (NLP) may suggest that the negation detection task has been "solved." This work proposes that an optimizable solution does not equal a generalizable solution. We introduce a new machine learning-based Polarity Module for detecting negation in clinical text, and extensively compare its performance across domains. Using four manua...
متن کاملUnsupervised Deep Domain Adaptation for Pedestrian Detection
This paper addresses the problem of unsupervised domain adaptation on the task of pedestrian detection in crowded scenes. First, we utilize an iterative algorithm to iteratively select and auto-annotate positive pedestrian samples with high confidence as the training samples for the target domain. Meanwhile, we also reuse negative samples from the source domain to compensate for the imbalance b...
متن کاملUnsupervised Entailment Detection between Dependency Graph Fragments
Entailment detection systems are generally designed to work either on single words, relations or full sentences. We propose a new task – detecting entailment between dependency graph fragments of any type – which relaxes these restrictions and leads to much wider entailment discovery. An unsupervised framework is described that uses intrinsic similarity, multi-level extrinsic similarity and the...
متن کاملUnsupervised Linguistically-Driven Reliable Dependency Parses Detection and Self-Training for Adaptation to the Biomedical Domain
In this paper, a new self–training method for domain adaptation is illustrated, where the selection of reliable parses is carried out by an unsupervised linguistically– driven algorithm, ULISSE. The method has been tested on biomedical texts with results showing a significant improvement with respect to considered baselines, which demonstrates its ability to capture both reliability of parses a...
